Friday, July 3 - Patio de las Campanas

On Friday, July 3 from 5:30pm - 7:30pm on the Patio de las Campanas, we will have music in the courtyard to kick off the 4th of July weekend. Artists in Rhythm presents ZAZU and the 'Soul of Paris'. Manouche jazz popularized by French gypsies, most notably, Django Reinhart exemplified the infectious swing, melancholy ballads and the dark tangos of Paris in the '30's. Known as the Quintette of the Hot Club of France, Django's various groups and Musette ensembles played the popular waltz style and other popular songs with the dark chromatic gypsy flavor and the swing articulation of the period. Full of arpeggios, glissandos, diminished chords and featuring 'La Pumpe', the strong accents on beats 2 and 4, the music was widely popular from the 1930's to 1950. Zazu, a gypsy trio featuring Ken Aurich and Larry Czarnecki on guitars from Flagstaff and Steve Douglas of Sedona on upright bass will bring this wonderful music to life.
