Edward "Ned" Aldrich at Mountain Trails Gallery

Mountain Trails Gallery invites you to meet wildlife painter Edward "Ned" Aldrich at a reception showcasing his newest paintings on Friday June 5th from 5-8 pm. Mr. Aldrich is an artist dedicated to reaching beyond the realistic rendering of wildlife and the natural world. He is convinced that conveying the inherent being of an animal is integral to his work. His style breathes life into his subjects and invokes the viewer into feeling that he or she is actually a witness to the scene. The viewer is not left to simply look and appreciate, but is drawn into experiencing the essence of what is depicted. In short, his is an art of feeling as well as portrayal. Originally from New York City, Mr. Aldrich spent part of his childhood living in Colorado outside of Boulder where his fascination with the surrounding mountains, forests, and wildlife began to take root. "From early on, I was captivated by wildlife and nature" says Aldrich. His mother was a wildlife photographer whose images had been published in magazines such as National Geographic. With her encouragement and mentoring, Ned enrolled in a summer session at the Rhode Island School of Design. Upon completion he knew RISD was where he wanted to attend college. After graduating in 1987, Aldrich began the arduous journey of introducing himself to the world of galleries and shows. In didn't take long for him to be noticed and by 1991 he was juried into the Society of Animal Artists. Over the past fifteen years, Ned's work has been featured in many prestigious shows and auctions including the "Birds in Art" show in Wausau, WI, the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum Show, the GilcreaseMuseum, and Christie's Auction held in London, England. He has been featured in numerous magazines such as Wildlife Art, American Artists Magazine, Wildlife Journal, and Inform Magazine.

Mr. Aldrich depicts wildlife from around the world, including many species from North America and Africa. His works can be found in private and corporate collections in both Canada and the United States. Join us at Mountain Trails Gallery as we welcome this amazing artist with an artist reception on Friday, June 5th from 5-8 pm. Mr. Aldrich's show will run from June 1st through June 15th. Tlaquepaque Arts and Crafts Village is well known as a fabulous shopping destination. It’s also an ideal venue for popular cultural festivals, art galas, intimate weddings and private parties under the stars.

Expanding on Tlaquepaque’s abundant choices for the perfectly tailored event is the 1500 square foot ballroom, La Sala de los Milagros. Beautifully situated on the Tlaquepaque’s upper level with twin balconies overlooking the cobblestoned Patio del Norte and its mosaic floral fountain, the English translation means “Room of Miracles”.

The multi-functional ballroom has hosted evening receptions, birthday celebrations and private parties complete with a dazzling display of lights, music, elegant linen-draped table settings and stunning floral arrangements.

With a full service kitchen adjacent to the room, catering is a breeze, especially with an elevator to the second floor. There’s convenient parking as well. Maximum seating capacity for formal dinner is 100.

Musical concerts, charity fundraisers, including art displays and even intimate theatrical performances, have taken place at La Sala de los Milagros. Workshops, seminars, company meetings, private luncheons, award ceremonies, and business planning sessions with theater style seating, conference-style with tables and chairs, or schoolboy tables are all possible.

Seminar groups as far away as the UK have utilized the flexibility of La Sala de los Milagros. “We have found the facilities at Tlaquepaque both excellent and unique. The ambience of the room and surroundings, with the excellent restaurants and fine art exhibits provide a perfect conference setting,” reports seminar leader, Christine Core who has booked for a second year.

Consider combining the indoor ambiance of La Sala de los Milagros with the outdoor splendor of one of Tlaquepaque’s signature courtyards as Lea Gracer of Sedona Visual Artists’ Coalition recently did. “The room is the perfect venue for our exhibits and functions… with French doors and a terrace overlooking a magnificent garden courtyard. On opening night we set up the food and music on the large patio, where hundreds of people enjoyed an evening of the old world glamour Tlaquepaque offers.”

New Egyptian Items for Sale at the Adrea Smith Gallery

Andrea Smith returns from Egypt after her 9 day Nile cruise aboard the "Yacht Afandina" stopping in villages, cities and temples to collect treasures for her gallery at Tlaquepaque. Her collections include jewelry from Bedouins, sculptures from the bazaars, and unusual Egyptian scarves. Andrea escorted 12 of her client/friends from the gallery on this wonderful adventure through time. Smith garnered a collection of sterling silver engraved rings with different Egyptian motifs to suit everyone’s tastes from a silversmith at the largest souk on the planet, the Kahili Bazaar, just outside of downtown Cairo. The yacht on which the journey was based is called a Dahabeeyah, which is a specially designed Egyptian Sailing vessel, about 150 feet long. It was done to the specs of King Farook’s famous Yacht, "The Afandina". Andrea said she felt that her and her friends were living today and 5,000 years ago, simultaneously. The cuisine, the staff and our Egyptologist Emile Shaker made a fantasy journey for us. Luxor, city of temples and Valley of the Kings was the next stop on the journey. Andrea found some wonderful cast sculpture that was created from molds that were thousands of years old, absolutely amazing how they all look like Cairo Museum artifacts from the tombs of the Pharaohs. The group then ventured to Aswan, the pearl of the Nile. This is Nubia, where Andrea went to the night market for a wonderful collection of jewelry in sterling silver, lapis, and onyx. Andrea has been escorting her friends to Egypt since 1994, always greeting them with an exciting adventure that they will cherish forever. This year it was two days at a palace across from the great Pyramid, 9 days aboard the Yacht Afandina, and one luxurious evening at the Four Seasons on The Nile. In previous years, her good friend Dr. Zahi Hawass joined her guests for lunch and a private lecture. Please stop by and visit the Andrea Smith Gallery in Tlaquepaque during the month of June and see for yourself all of the wonderful treasures Andrea has brought back from Egypt.

Tlaquepaque Receives 2009 Bride’s Choice Award for Excellence

Sedona, Arizona’s Tlaquepaque Arts and Crafts Village has been chosen to receive the 2009 Bride’s Choice Award from WeddingWire network. Recent Tlaquepaque brides determined the award through surveys and reviews from WeddingWire network. The award specifically recognizes vendors in the top three percent who “demonstrate excellent quality of service, responsiveness, professionalism, value of cost and flexibility.”

Bringing couples planning their weddings together with wedding vendors across the country (100,000+) in an easy-to-navigate website, WeddingWire network provides the most up-to-date information and wedding planning portal for soon-to-be newlyweds.
Comments on the WeddingWire website regarding Tlaquepaque as a premier wedding destination were consistently complimentary of Jill Kyriakopulos, Tlaquepaque’s staff wedding coordinator. “The venue was breathtaking, the staff was helpful and went way above and beyond their duties. We were so very pleased with the service provided. Jill was great and very easy to work with.”

“We are very happy to be receiving the 2009 Bride’s Choice Award. Over the years we have developed a first class wedding service that is reasonable, flexible and perfectly tailored for intimate weddings under 100 guests,” remarked Wendy Lippman, Tlaquepaque, GM and managing partner. “If you have ever dreamed of having a beautiful traditional wedding in a gorgeous romantic setting, then consider the non-denominational Chapel at Tlaquepaque.”

Tlaquepaque, fashioned after a Mexican village in every detail, is like going back in time. Vine-covered stucco walls; cobble-stoned walkways and magnificent arched entryways lead into magical garden nooks and spacious patios. It gives one the feeling that Tlaquepaque has been around for centuries.

With three stunning outdoor patios and a new upper terrace overlooking Tlaquepaque’s signature floral fountain in Patio del Norte, it’s easy to find the right fit for any wedding reception. Additionally the indoor private suite, La Sala de los Milagros (Room of Miracles) is available for up to 100 guests.

To inquire about booking a Tlaquepaque wedding and to review the many vendor options in Sedona please contact Jill Kyriakopulos at (928) 282-4838.

Friday, July 3 - Patio de las Campanas

On Friday, July 3 from 5:30pm - 7:30pm on the Patio de las Campanas, we will have music in the courtyard to kick off the 4th of July weekend. Artists in Rhythm presents ZAZU and the 'Soul of Paris'. Manouche jazz popularized by French gypsies, most notably, Django Reinhart exemplified the infectious swing, melancholy ballads and the dark tangos of Paris in the '30's. Known as the Quintette of the Hot Club of France, Django's various groups and Musette ensembles played the popular waltz style and other popular songs with the dark chromatic gypsy flavor and the swing articulation of the period. Full of arpeggios, glissandos, diminished chords and featuring 'La Pumpe', the strong accents on beats 2 and 4, the music was widely popular from the 1930's to 1950. Zazu, a gypsy trio featuring Ken Aurich and Larry Czarnecki on guitars from Flagstaff and Steve Douglas of Sedona on upright bass will bring this wonderful music to life.

Electric Outlets added in Portal Lane for Electric Vehicles

We have installed electric outlets for Electric Vehicles in the Portal Lane Lot. They are located in the front of the log next to the row of handicapped parking places. These outlets allow the electric vehicles to recharge their batteries while they are visiting Tlaquepaque.

Many of the benefits of Electric Vehicles are fairly obvious.

They have no tailpipe emissions, so they produce no air pollution at the point of use.
Since electricity is generated mostly from domestic energy sources, they also help reduce dependency of foreign oil.

And since utility companies are investing in renewable, zero emission energy, Electric Vehicles using grid electricity will have even less impact on air quality.

Electric Vehicles also use energy more efficiently than internal combustion engines (ICE), so they cost less in energy.

Please spread the word that these outlets are now available for electric vehicles.

Today the ensemble includes trumpeters Dean Garner and NAU Trumpet Professort Dr. Stephen Dunn, hornist Colin Speirs, NAU Faculty trombonist David Vining and tubist Bert Harclerode who is also Chamber Music Sedona executive director. Happy May Day

May Day is related to the Celtic festival of Beltane and the Germanic festival of Walpurgis Night. May Day falls exactly half of a year from November 1, another cross-quarter day which is also associated with various northern European pagan and neopagan festivals such as Sahmain. May Day marks the end of the uncomfortable winter half of the year in the Northern hemisphere, and it has traditionally been an occasion for popular and often raucous celebrations, regardless of the locally prevalent political or religious establishment.

As Europe became Christianized the pagan holidays lost their religious character and either changed into popular secular celebrations, as with May Day, or were replaced by new Christian holidays as with Christmas, Easter, and All Saint's Day. In the twentieth century, many neopagans began reconstructing the old traditions and celebrating May Day as a pagan religious festival again. Let's all celebrate the arrival of May and kick off a great weekend!
