Celebration of Native American Music & Dance Saturday June 13

Tlaquepaque will be hosting the "Celebration of Native American Music and Dance". The festival is a non-profit event with proceeds dedicated to the protection, preservation and interpretation of the Native American cultural heritage sites of Sedona and the Verde Valley.

The Yellow Bird Apache Dancers perform from 10:30 to 11:00 AM, 12:00 - 12:30 PM, 1:30 - 2:00 PM, and 3:00 - 3:30 PM in Plaza de la Fuente. Kevin Duncan, four-time world champion hoop dancer and the current World Champion teen hoop dancer, spins 25 colored hoops in a blur of dance and high intensity movement that is mind-boggling. Not to mention the dancers creative depictions of several animal forms including the eagle and rattlesnake. This is a must-see phenomenon!

If you’re an Indie film buff and like PBS documentaries you may recognize the signature sounds of Aaron White who has been making traditional music for 17 years. Signer, songwriter, master of the Native American flute and acoustical guitarist, his finger picking style has been captivating audiences around the country. White’s lyrics and musical style is both modern and grounded in the haunting sounds unique to the ceremonial flute. White received a Grammy Nomination in 2003 for his work with Burning Sky for their CD Spirits in the Wind. Aaron White and Burning Sky perform from 12:00 - 3:30 PM in the Patio de las Campanas.
