Floyd, the Tlaquepaque Mascot Turns 2 Years Old

Floyd, the Tlaquepaque Mascot, has recently celebrated a birthday and is now 2 years old. Our office would not be the same without Floyd. He greets everyone who enters the Tlaquepaque management office and gives love to all. There is not a sweeter dog around. You may see Floyd enjoying the cool fountain water of the Patio del Norte or laying in the grass near the Secret Garden Restaurant. Floyd knows all the spots in the village to get treats and he loves children. Tlaquepaque is happy to have Floyd as our official Mascot

Retail Yoga Therapy offered at Tlaquepaque

WE ARE STARTING YOGA ON MONDAY, MAY 11TH, 8:00 A.M. – 9:00 A.M. IN THE BANQUET ROOM ABOVE RENE’S. EXTRA MATS WILL BE PROVIDED IF YOU DON’T HAVE MATS.

PLEASE BRING SOME WATER, AND A STOUT MEXICAN TYPE BLANKET FOR SUPPORT IN SOME SEATED POSITIONS. A BEACH TOWEL WOULD ALSO WORK FOR THIS PURPOSE. WE WILL HAVE SOME BLANKETS IF YOU DON’T HAVE A BLANKET OR TOWEL. WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU.

Sunday, May 10 is Mother's Day

Sunday, May 10th is Mother's Day. This is a special day to remember all the Mothers in our lives. They may be your own Mother, you yourself may be a mother, your daughter may be a mother, or your best friend may be a mother. We have shared our lives with so many mothers, and let's all remember them this Sunday. A special treat would be to take your mother to Rene's for a special Mother's Day meal. You can enjoy a Mexican stye Mother's day at El Rincon Mexican Restaurant and drink Margaritas together. For a peaceful luncheon with Mom, take her to the Secret Garden Restaurant with their lovely garden setting. The Brewery is also a wonderful location for a mother's day treat for mom. Let's treat our Mothers this Sunday and support the Tlaquepaque Village.

Major Swing to Perform Friday, June 19

Major Swing will perform on the Patio de las Campanas on Friday, June 19th from Time: 3:30pm – 5:30pm. Major Swing is Ken Orrick (Guitar), Larry Czarnecki (Guitar), and Jason Andolino (Upright Bass). Major Swing plays a diversity of styles including Gypsy Jazz, Blues, Bolero and Bossa-Nova. The group was started by guitarist Ken Orrick and began to take shape with the arrival of guitarist Larry Czarnecki and later bassist Jason Andolino. Major Swing pays tribute to the music of Django Rheinhardt and also mixes other unique selections that give the group a more varied and contemporary sound. We are happy to have Major Swing performing this year at Tlaquepaque.

Children’s Chorale of Flagstaff to Perform on Sunday, May 24, 2009

On Sunday, May 24, 2009 from 12:30pm - 1:15pm. the Children Chorale of Flagstaff will perform in the Patio de las Campanas.

Children’s Chorale of Flagstaff is a community youth choir open to singers from the age of 8 to18. Founded in 1997 under the sponsorship of the Master Chorale of Flagstaff, the Children’s Chorale is a frequent guest performer on the concerts of the Master Chorale and the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra.
The Chorale is comprised of three choral groups that rehearse weekly and perform September through May. The Pine Tones chorus is a beginning choir for boys and girls in grades 3 through 5. Pine Tones singers explore and develop the singing voice and are introduced to performing in a playful and high-energy atmosphere. Dolce Cantando, meaning “sweetly singing” in Italian, provides vocal training and development for singers in grades 6 through 12. Madrigal Singers is the select performing and touring ensemble of the Children’s Chorale. “Madrigals,” as it is fondly called by our choristers, is open to singers from the age of 13 to 18 by audition.

The Children's Chorale maintains a collaborative relationship with the Master Chorale of Flagstaff and the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra. Concerts and community appearances by the Children’s Chorale are an integral part of the Flagstaff performing arts season.

Happy May Day

May Day is related to the Celtic festival of Beltane and the Germanic festival of Walpurgis Night. May Day falls exactly half of a year from November 1, another cross-quarter day which is also associated with various northern European pagan and neopagan festivals such as Sahmain. May Day marks the end of the uncomfortable winter half of the year in the Northern hemisphere, and it has traditionally been an occasion for popular and often raucous celebrations, regardless of the locally prevalent political or religious establishment.

As Europe became Christianized the pagan holidays lost their religious character and either changed into popular secular celebrations, as with May Day, or were replaced by new Christian holidays as with Christmas, Easter, and All Saint's Day. In the twentieth century, many neopagans began reconstructing the old traditions and celebrating May Day as a pagan religious festival again. Let's all celebrate the arrival of May and kick off a great weekend!
